Emily Atkins is a born and raised Dallas, Texas artist. Through her career she has enjoyed working in a variety of media, including printmaking, cast metal sculptures and ceramics. She earned her BFA from the University of North Texas in 2008 and worked as an art educator in the suburbs of Dallas for ten years, pivoting in 2018 into full-time studio art production with a focus on wheel-thrown, mid-range fired ceramics. An avid plant collector and gardener, many of her 2019 art series focuses on varying sizes of planters for specialty items such as orchids and succulents.
Emily exhibited artwork in art shows from 2002 through 2018 in galleries in the DFW region and locations as far away as New York to New Mexico. She was selected for the Craighead-Green gallery’s annual ‘New Texas Talent’ in 2011, and most recently selected in late 2018 for the Amarillo Museum of Art’s show ‘Burning Ring of Fire’, a look at the artists and artworks produced over the past 20 years at Mesalands Community College’s annual iron pour in Tucumcari, New Mexico. After a short break in 2019 while establishing her home studio, Snailseed Studio, Emily is excited to begin applying to and participating in art shows with her new series of work.
Emily and her husband Mark live in far north Dallas with their cockapoo Coco and two cats, Abigail and Beatrice. Weekends are filled with projects together in the woodshop, garden and home. They enjoy taking short road trips throughout Texas and neighboring states to visit state parks and regional breweries.
